On September 01, 2015, Saskatchewan Minister of the Environment, the Honourable Herb Cox, announced new drainage regulations as a first phase of an agricultural water management strategy for Saskatchewan.  Although details are limited at this point, the Water Security Agency (WSA) has provided some initial informational resources on the new regulations on their website, at:


APAS has long advocated for a more coordinated approach to water management in Saskatchewan. We had made our position clear to the Province during stakeholder consultations and were anticipating this announcement. The following are some of our initial observations around what these changes might mean for producers, and what we see as the important next steps for this initiative to meet the needs of Saskatchewan’s farmers and ranchers.
